AAU FAQ's
Question: What is AAU Volleyball?
- Answer: Volleyball AAU is a program under the Amateur Athletic Union that provides opportunities for amateur volleyball players to compete in various tournaments and events.
Question: How will the coach communicate with the team during the season?
- Answer: CVA uses an application called TeamSnap. There will find the team's roster, dates and times of practices and tournaments, along with messaging capabilities the coach will use to communicate both individually as well as a team.
Question: Will we always practice at the same day/time/location every week?
- Answer: CVA Partners with the Ankeny Parks and Recreation for gym space. As we do our best to offer the same time/days/locations it's not always possible. Your child's coach will provide dates, times, and locations for practices in TeamSnap.
Question: What makes AAU different than Park & Rec?
- Answer: While Park & Rec. is great for trying out volleyball for the first time AAU takes volleyball to a slighter higher level with more foundational pieces, and the ability to compete with teams from all over Iowa. The time commitment and effort level is more than Park & Rec. teams.
Question: Does my child have to have certain gear? Does it have to match the team?
- Answer: Your child is required to have knee pads and clean tennis shoes. We do not require volleyball shoes. Shoes and knee pads do not have to match teammates. Tennis shoes must be clean to come on the court.
Question: Do parents have to do anything at tournaments?
- Answer: Yes! All parents or guardians are required to down referee, line judge, score keep, or in some rare occasions up ref during tournaments. If parents do not do this, then other teams in the tournament will not be able to compete due to lacking the officials needed to run a game. Your coach will talk with you more on scheduling these assignments ahead of time.
Question: Are players required to referee during tournaments?
- Yes! Players are required to line judge, score flip, and in some rare occasions down ref during tournaments. Again, if players do not do this, then other teams in the tournament will not be able to compete due to lacking the officials needed to run a game.
Question: When will we know tournament locations and schedules?
- Tournament locations are communicated by the coach after the coach is able to register. Registration normally occurs sometime in December. Tournament schedules normally come out the week of the tournament. All AAU tournaments are one day.
